About Mark Cobb
Early Musical Roots:
Mark Cobb grew up in Carmel, Indiana, where his love for music and drumming began at an early age. Immersed in every ensemble he could join—concert band, orchestra, marching band, jazz ensemble, pep band, and solo performances—Mark built a foundation in both precision and creativity. By the time he graduated college, he was determined to turn his lifelong passion into a career.
Professional Career:
After moving to Atlanta, Mark became the founding drummer of Yacht Rock Revue, a group celebrated for recreating the iconic studio sounds of the 1970s and ’80s. His performances channel the artistry of legends like Bernard Purdie, Russ Kunkel, Jeff Porcaro, and Steve Gadd—with remarkable authenticity. With Yacht Rock Revue, Mark has shared the stage with artists such as John Oates, Eddie Money, Mickey Thomas (Starship), Gary Wright, and Brian Ray (Paul McCartney), and has opened for acts including Ludacris, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, and The Black Eyed Peas. His performances have taken him everywhere from the Rose Bowl and College Football National Championship to Turner Field’s Fourth of July celebration before a crowd of 35,000.
Studio Work and Education:
Mark’s studio credits are equally impressive. A first-call Atlanta session drummer and Grammy member, he has recorded with Washed Out, Neon Indian, Brandon Bush (Sugarland, Train), Clay Cook (Zac Brown Band), and Puddles Pity Party, among others. His formal studies at the Indiana University School of Music strengthened his technical mastery, while his time in Los Angeles—studying with legendary drummer James Gadson—shaped his distinctive groove and versatility.
Teaching and Philosophy:
As an experienced percussion instructor, Mark brings the same infectious enthusiasm to his students that he brings to the stage. He works with drummers of all ages and skill levels, helping each student find their rhythm, confidence, and joy in playing.
Beyond the Drum Kit:
When he’s not performing or teaching, Mark enjoys spending time with his three kids, scuba diving, filming sketch comedy, and defending his title as the reigning pop culture trivia champion.
