Mark Cobb Drum & Percussion Instructor
Mark Cobb grew up in Carmel, Indiana where he became obsessed with music and drumming from an early age. After honing his skills through performances with concert band, orchestra, marching band, solo and ensemble, marching band, jazz ensemble, and pep band, he set his sights on becoming a professional musician. After graduating from college and moving to Atlanta, he created the Yacht Rock Revue where he brought to life the sounds of the most iconic studio drummers of all time – the Purdie shuffle, Russ Kunkel’s artful tom fills, Jeff Porcaro’s relentless grooves, Steve Gadd’s perfect precision – with stunning accuracy.
With Yacht Rock Revue, Mark has performed backing up legends including Gary Wright, Eddie Money, Mickey Thomas (Starship), Brian Ray (Paul McCartney), John Oates, Robbie Dupree, Jeff Carlisi (.38 Special) and many more. He’s opened for Ludacris, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, and the Black Eyed Peas. He’s performed at the Rose Bowl, the College Football National Championship, the NCAA Final Four and a pre-fireworks set for 35,000 fans on the 4th of July at Turner Field – after singing the national anthem with a fighter jet flyover. He’s performed on music cruises with Kid Rock, Weezer, KISS, Train, Zac Brown Band, Dinosaur Jr., Emmylou Harris and Heart.
As a first-call Atlanta studio drummer and Grammy member, artists such as Washed Out, Neon Indian, Brandon Bush (Sugarland, Train), Clay Cook (Zac Brown Band, Shawn Mullins), and even Puddles Pity Party have utilized Mark’s signature beats and percussive grooves. Mark’s infectious enthusiasm for music and drumming was heightened during his time at the prestigious Indiana University School of Music. However, it was not until after he received his degree and spent a year in Los Angeles that he grew into the seasoned player he is today. During that time he befriended and studied with the iconic James Gadson, one of the most recorded drummers of our time.
An experienced percussion instructor, Mark has connected with learners of all ages and abilities and believes his success lies in his ability to pass on his passion for music to his students. In his spare time, Mark spends time with his three kids, scuba dives, films sketch comedy, and defends his title as the ultimate pop culture knowledge bowl champion.
