About Gretchen Perkins

Education and Training:
Gretchen Perkins is a classically trained vocalist with a lifelong passion for helping others discover their voices. She studied at the prestigious Eastman School of Music and earned her Master’s degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Illinois, building a strong foundation in vocal technique, performance, and musicianship.

Teaching Experience:
With over 20 years of teaching experience, Gretchen specializes in working with teens, tweens, and adults, guiding students through a wide range of vocal styles. While her training is rooted in classical technique, she enthusiastically supports students who want to sing in pop, rock, musical theatre, or any genre that inspires them.

Piano and Lesson Philosophy:
In addition to voice, Gretchen teaches beginning piano, focusing on helping students build confidence and enjoy learning music from the very start. She believes that practice outside of lesson time is essential—students who dedicate time to their instruments see the greatest growth and satisfaction.

Today:
Gretchen brings warmth, experience, and joy to every lesson, creating a supportive space for students to explore their musical potential. She teaches voice and beginning piano at Firehouse Guitars & Music in Decatur, GA on Mondays, Fridays, and Sundays.
