Ben Hernandez grew up in South Florida, where both of his parents, and his mother’s mother were professional musicians before him. He began playing piano at the age of 5, saxophone at 9, and guitar and bass at 11. As a teen, he also began to earn a good reputation as a singer. He moved to Georgia in 1993, and began playing bass, and guitar, professionally in Atlanta with acts such as Freak the Jones, and Da’ Shiz. After touring relentlessly for a decade, he became a family man, and he began teaching in 2003. He has produced numerous full-length CDs, and continues to expand his horizons as an audio engineer, having graduated summa cum laud from the Art Institute of Atlanta.
Ben continues to play 60-100 shows each year with local acts such as Deep Blue Sun, and HEADLINER. He also plays 20-30 solo performances.each year. He is fluent in a variety of styles, and his teaching style is meant to give students the skills and tools they will need to practice effectively during their own time. Ben loves beginners, but is happy to take on intermediate and advanced students as well.
